Meet the Band

Kevin (guitar) - the youngest of the Boners! Kevin plays the Fender Electric Guitar like nobody’s business. First time I heard him play I thought I was listening to Danny Gatton playing the Black Crowes. Too cool. Kevin lost his mane of hair in an unfortunate frisbee accident.

Chris (drums) - Hailing from a musical family, Chris and little bro’ Kevin, who happens to be the guitar picker for Joe Bones, got their start as sidemen (read: roadies ) in their dad’s (Mike Fahey) country band. Many a summer night would find the lads criss-crossing the Ottawa Valley to hayrides and hoedowns. When not jamming or gigging with Joe Bones, Chris answers the occasional SOS from Ottawa band Random Play and finds time to study drums with Dave Cronkite of the Sway Orchestra. Not surprisingly, his musical influences are as varied as the Joe Bones set-list. Currently on his iPod: The Meters, Willie Nelson, the Red Hot Chili Peppers along with local favourites Silver Creek, Monkey Junk and Cherry Suede. Oh, and Chris also believes Ringo Starr is the most underrated musician of the last century. Remember, the Beatles didn’t become “the Beatles” until Ringo joined.

Fraser (bass/vox) – The Old Boner.  Fraser started jamming on bass guitar to Beatles tunes in the late 1970s then quickly moved to playing percussion in an all drum band called, ironically, The Guitars. Stints in Brain Damage (aka Serious Business and/or Duran Duran Duran)  and Thumpthing in the 1980s and early 1990s were followed by a lull in Fraser’s musical pursuits. A chance call from the original members of The Suicide Kings in the summer of 1999 to fill in on bass led to a very productive gigging and recording stint with what was, by then, known as PUSH. Fraser followed that up by contributing material to the Lee Bowie Band‘s debut album, Sunflowers and Surfcasters  as well as brief stints with Rusty and George Stryker and the Bandits.  After forming Joe Bones with Kevin and Chris in 2010, Fraser took a brief sojourn to work in Afghanistan where his musical highlights consisted of a somewhat loud outdoor jam on a Muslim holy day being shut down unceremoniously by the ISAF Commander General David Petraeus, playing gigs at the US Embassy in Kabul on Independence Day and Labour Day, playing pickup gigs at the “Duck and Cover Pub” with the Baksheesh Boys as well as somehow finding himself playing bass with the Camp Eggers Gospel Band. And no, lightning did not strike him down! Fraser is very happy to be back home and gigging with Joe Bones!

Geraldo (guitars, keys and vox) –  Don’t let the twisty face in the photo fool ya – Geraldo is glad to have been adopted as the latest Joe Boner. The boys are endeavouring to expand his horizons – namely his affinity for Blue Rodeo ballads and campfire songs -  in favour of a more animated part of the galaxy where you hear the likes of ZZ Top, the Black Crowes, and Steve Earle. And we’re glad to have Geraldo on the program!

Joe Bones – our inspiration. Hailing from Moose Creek, Ontario, Joe gained recognition as a world class spoons player, touring widely between Cornwall and Arnprior, Ontario. His Beer of Choice was Red Cap Ale, a fine brew if there ever was one. Sadly, Joe left this earth in 1972.
